Until you know what and who you want to change into, you will never start the process of changing your life into that.
I have heard people, including myself, talk and flirt with the idea of changing and reinventing themselves, but after a little effort in an attempt to cause that change in their lives, they go right back to who they’ve always been.
The thing many people don’t realize is that you can never get to a place you don’t know. You need to know exactly where you are going. It must have a name, a particular quality or characteristics, and a map to get there.
If you want to be a tailor for example, you must say what kind of tailor you will want to be. You must choose the type of dress you want to be an expert in sewing. You must go out and search for the tailoring shop you will want to learn from. You must know how much it will cost to learn there. You must know their working hours and how you could schedule it into your weekly routines. And so on and so forth.
However, the most important of all would be to think of how to raise the money to pay for the lesson. And if it happens that you are the one who must come up with it, then write out a plan on how to raise the money. And when it is written, look at that plan every day till you accomplish it. Looking it up daily will help your mind keep the plan within your conscious awareness. The more you look at it, the more you don’t get comfortable engaging in activities that are not supporting you get closer to raising the money. That’s how to get your life working in favour of your dreams. You must direct it to.
You can’t achieve anything you have not clearly describe it to yourself.
If you say you want to be serious, you must define what seriousness looks like. The activities that reflect and entail being serious. You must write them all down, and assign yourself to accomplishing each, every single everyday, till this routine is becomes your new lifestyle.
Change must be intentional for it to ever come into reality. Just as securing a new job would have you write out on the tablet of your soul, how your week days and every hour therein must be spent. You will have no other option but to adjust to the dictates of your new job. You won’t sit back and hope for the change to happen. You will stand up and obey the new reality, the new behavioural pattern required of you, because it is clearly spelt out by the organization you now work for.
You can change. You can improve. And you can start the life you want. But first, write out exactly how you want that life to be. You must leave no day to be decided by providence or fate. You must map it all out, just like your new secured organization mapped hers, and you’re left with no other option but to comply with her demands.
